UEFA opens meeting on applicant-cities for Euro-2012

Tuesday, May 12 in Bucharest starts the meeting of UEFA Executive committee where all Ukrainian and Polish host-cities of Europe Football Championship 2012 will be announced. The Executive committee with UEFA President Michel Platini in the head will make its decision after final applicant-cities’ evaluation. The basis is documented data gathered by UEFA delegation which visited Ukraine and Poland in the mid-April, as informs FFU press-agency.

While making its decision UEFA will take into account the latest report of both the countries which was heard in Nyon right before the meeting. The experts of the main Europe Football Organization expressed their satisfaction with Ukraine’s preparation after the report of FFU President Grigory Surkis and vice Prime Minister Ivan Vasyunik.

Final decision on Euro-2012 host-cities is planned on May, 13.

In addition to Euro-2012 resolution the Executive committee will look into other burning issues. UEFA will define hosts of Euro-2011 among 19-year olds and Euro-2011 for young women. There will also be defined welfare institution which obtains 1 mln Swiss francs check from UEFA during traditional gala-night of European football in Monaco in August, 2009.

Krakow announced bids opening to construct two underground parking lots

The bids contest was announced in Krakow to construct two underground parking lots close to the local stadium of “Vistula for Euro-2012″. The bids winner’s going to get the sites in 39-year concession in exchange for financing construction of underground parking for 571 and 495 parking spaces, as informs UKRINFORM’s own correspondent.

In accordance with the City public infrastructure and transport management plan, parking will be set in operation by the end of 2010, early 2011. Total investment cost is estimated 100-130 mln zlotys ($ 31-40 mln).

It’s supposed to create around 4.000 spaces for underground parking in the city center. Most of them will be located next to “Vistula” stadium where Euro-2012 matches are to be held.

ASCAN Company, Spain has already been building underground parking for 600 spaces in Krakow. Its investment cost makes 63 mln zlotys (about $ 20 mln) and its completion is previewed by the end of 2009. ASCAN will get the parking in 70-year concession as construction is being financed from its own funds.

According to UKRINFORM, Krakow and Khozhuw are two Polish cities from the backup list to host Europe Championship 2012.

Ukraine will tell UEFA of its success

On Friday, May 8th, in UEFA headquarters, Nyon is held the session of Supervisory Board where Ukrainian delegation with vice Prime Minister Ivan Vasyunik in the head will for the last time report on the Euro-2012 host-cities infrastructure readiness before final selection of host-cities.

Thursday morning on May, 7 Ukrainian delegation left for Nyon. It’s planned to hear the speech of Ivan Vasyunik as governmental coordinator of Euro-2012 organization in Ukraine and FFU President Grigory Surkis as UEFA Executive committee member.

Mr. Vasyunik will report on the latest achievements in infrastructure preparation, more precisely on those changes taken place in cities’ preparation till the last visit of UEFA President Michel Platini to Ukraine.

That’s the last report of Ukraine and Poland before UEFA’s decision on host-cities selection for the Championship and their distribution in both the countries.

On May, 13th UEFA Executive committee will chose the cities to host Euro-2012 in Ukraine and Poland. At the moment 12 cities are struggling for the right to be the hosts of Euro-2012 matches.

Sports infrastructure reconstruction comes to an end in Kharkov

Reconstruction works at the main sites of football infrastructure in Kharkov are nearing their completion.

According to DCH press-agency, for May 5th, 2009 at the Metallist stadium is finished cover mounting over North stands and now South stands are undergoing the reconstruction.

Powerful up-to-date illumination system totally satisfying to UEFA standards has already been assembled over East and West stands cover. Close to the West stands are erected three floors of multifunctional facility where will locate locker rooms for football players, press-agency, restaurant for 360 seats and seven sky-boxes for V.I.P. visitors to watch the matches in special comfort.

Moreover, front and stadium territory refining is almost finished and paving tiles have been laid near North and South stands. In the North stands face work is underway.

In accordance with preparation schedule general reconstruction works at Metallist stadium will be completed by September, 2009 - that’s one year ahead the term set by UEFA for key sports objects of Euro-2012.

Construction of new building for Metallist FC training base comes to an end where one of participant teams is planned to be accommodated.

It was reported that National Sports Center of Poland together with Polish-German-Austrian syndicate signed agreement on carrying out of general construction works at the National stadium in Poland which will held open match of Europe Football Championship final in 2012.

Ukraine will attract investment from Israel

As stated at the briefing Vasily Kirilich, press-agency chairman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, political discussion between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Israel is being held in Kiev. The possibility of attracting Israel to participate in Euro-2012 organization is being discussed.

In particular prospects of Ukrainian-Israel relationship development are talked over and also burning issues in international environment.

Ukrainian delegation is headed by deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Gorin, while Pinkhas Avivi is general director deputy for Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Israel.

Earlier it was reported that Germany had been eager to assist Ukraine in organizing Europe Football Championship final of 2012.
