Stadium construction in Warsaw slows down as holidays approach

In Poland’s capital were halted noisy construction works in the National stadium for the period of Christmas and New Year holidays from December 23, 2008 up to January 5, 2009.

Works delay became possible thanks to advance in construction schedule, as informed in PL 2012 Company which coordinates preparation of Poland for hosting Euro-2012.

“That’s for our residents living next to the National stadium. Hammering in the piles may terribly disturb them” - told Janush Kublinsky, vice-President of the company for Construction Affairs.

According to PL 2012 data, at the moment 64% of the work with 48% scheduled is already carried out.

Earlier UEFA announced registration for purchasing media rights to broadcast Europe Football Championship 2012 matches which will be held in Ukraine and Poland.

Euro-2012: Poznan decided on stadium reconstruction

 Syndicate of 6 companies won bids for stadium reconstruction in Poznan, one of four major Polish host-cities of Europe Football Championship matches 2012.

 Syndicate headed by Polish Company of Hydrobudowa Polska SA gained the contract. The syndicate proposed the lowest cost for reconstruction among all the bids participants, which made 490 mln zlotys (around $ 170 mln).

The winner syndicate also comprises such companies in Poznan as PBG SA and AK-BUD Kurant, Alpine Construction Polska in Krakow, German Alpine Bau Deutschland and Austrian Alpine Bau GMBH.

Construction works will start in January, 2009 and the stadium is planned to be set in operation in August, 2010.

After its modernization stadium in Poznan will be able to seat 46.000 fans.

Earlier it was informed that in Polish city of Gdansk was started stadium construction for holding Europe Football Championship matches 2012.

Gdansk started stadium construction

In Polish city of Gdansk was started construction of the stadium for hosting Europe Football Championship matches 2012.

Mayor of Gdansk Pavel Adamowich and State Secretary for Ministry of Sport and Tourism in Poland Adam Gersh participated in official ceremony of opening construction works at the stadium.

Company officials noted that the project developed by Rhode - Kellermann - Wawrowsky comprises 92 volumes.

Cover slabs will be made of 6 amber tints. Close to the stadium will be erected two halls, with total area of 16.000 m2. To the stadium one can get through 4 underpasses.

The stadium together with 7 ground and 1 underground level, and also additional facilities will cover the territory of 34 hectares.

In Gdansk is started construction of the stadium for Euro-2012

On December, 15th in the Polish city of Gdansk starts construction of stadium for Europe Football Championship 2012.

In a 6-month period territory for stadium construction in Gdansk should be prepared. The contract cost (no taxes included) makes 102 mln zlotys (around $ 34 mln in present course).

The estimate cost of the stadium construction makes 623 million zlotys (more than $ 200 mln). Arena’s extent in Gdansk which will cover territory of 34 hectares and will have 7 ground and 1 underground level, 227 m, 194 m in width and 45 m in height.

The stadium is previewed to seat 44 thousand fans, plus 1500 seats in the VIP-stands. According to the project, the stadium parking lot can contain 1800 cars and 160 trucks.

The stadium where three matches of the Championship have to be held is planned to be set in operation in 2011.

Gdansk is one of 4 major cities in Poland hosting Euro-2012 matches. In Poland matches will be held also in Warsaw, Wroclaw and Poznan. Krakow and Khozhuw are in backup.

Corruption of Polish umpires may influence preparation for Euro-2012

Visiting Bulgarian capital of Sofia UEFA President Michel Platini stated that corruption of Polish umpires may affect preparation of Poland for Europe Championship 2012.

Meanwhile he underlined that UEFA isn’t going to struggle against corruption among Polish referees. “If in matches is observed corruption among umpires that’s not the job of UEFA to fight with it. I’m not referee or policeman, so all problems should be solved on your own” - highlighted M. Platini
