EURO 2012. Reconstruction Of Airports .

Head of the National Agency preparing for and holding of the European Football Championship 2012 finals in Ukraine,
Yevhen Chervonenko, has underlined the necessity of private investors’ active participation in reconstruction of
airports that will be used during the championship.
He has announced this at a news briefing jointly with deputy head of the President’s Secretariat Oksana Sliusarenko,
who is also secretary of the coordination council on preparations for EURO 2012.
Chervonenko noted, the airports that will be main or reserve for EURO 2012 need investments of USD 50 to 250 million.
“We think that private investors engaged in joint financial projects with municipal property through open tenders is
the only effective way to develop airports and change our communications community,” said Chervonenko.
He said there are real investors who are ready to adjoin these projects and invest money in development of airports,
and the budget finance, earmarked for this, could be channeled to development of roads.
Also Chervonenko announced, on April 18 he with president of the Ukrainian Football Association Hryhorii Surkis and
UEFA president Michele Platini is signing a final list of programs and list of facilities for holding EURO 2012.
In her turn Sliusarenko told, the coordination council on preparations for EURO 2012 has approved its timetable for 2008,
introducing such a novelty as field meetings, planned for each city engaged in holding of the tournament.
“The coordination council will travel, i.e. in 2008 it will hold its meetings in each of the cities receiving EURO 2012.
And this means that all the coordination council members, as well as the president and the prime minister will be able
to learn all the preparation problems on the spot,” she said.
In her opinion, for today the coordination council is an efficient mechanism to control over preparations for EURO 2012.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers affirmed a concept of the state target program of developing
airports by 2020.
On October 24, 2007 President Viktor Yuschenko called for giving a special state status to the investors who finance
projects for preparations and holding EURO 2012 in Ukraine.
