Lately the participants of UEFA volunteer program were finally determined; they will be involved into carrying out of European football championship of 2012. Following the results of 13 000 interviews which took place in all the eight receiving cities of the tournament for the last three month, 5500 volunteers were selected: half of them will work in Ukraine, the other half - in Poland.
The future championship has already achieved some records before its beginning, including the number of people wishing to help voluntarily in organization of Euro-2012. From 14th of June till 16th of October almost 24 thousands of people from all over the world had filed applications on the web-site of Union of European Football Associations. "Now 5500 of them became part of the team and will work side-by-side with more than 650 employees of UEFA and local organizing committees to make European championship unforgettable", - The director of the Tournament in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivsky noted.
Some of volunteers already experienced the first baptism of fire in last December - during the final drawing of Euro-2012. "During the event 246 volunteers helped us, each of them became a co-organizer of that large-scale event. They worked in nine directions n all official places - airports, hotels and "Ukraine" palace. We were very satisfied with their work", - Markiyan Lubkivsky said.
The head of local organization committee "Ukraine Euro-2012" also underlined that volunteers play very important role in organization of continental championship, as they help to realize absolutely all projects connected with it. "Volunteers are the identity of championship", - Lubkivsky remarked.
Among those who got through all the qualifying stages and became a part of Euro-2012 volunteer team, - not only the representatives of the receiving countries - Ukraine and Poland. There are many Russian, Byelorussian, American and German people among volunteers. Volunteers from Nigeria, Latin America, Kenya, Morocco as well as from India and Hong Kong will help during the tournament. As the organizers state, young people from different places all over the world became the volunteers.
In March all of them will start the distance learning for which purpose unprecedented programs will be used, and after that they will take special training courses. From the end of April the volunteers will start work directly connected with Euro-2012, which will last till the beginning of July. The extent and duration of involvement of one or another volunteer will depend on direction of activity.
There will be 20 of such directions in total: legal assistance, IT-support, transport services and so on. Volunteer team will work in all the official places of the championship - in airports of receiving cities, in hotels, at stadiums, in fan-zones. The volunteers of the tournament will be recognized by their uniform with logo of Euro-2012.
