Poland doesn’t cope with building roads for Euro-2012
Roads and Highways’ construction Plan has appeared to be unreal for performance in Poland.
One year ago Minister of infrastructure Tsezary Grabarchik promised that by June, 2012
over 700 km of new highways would be constructed in Poland, and the length of highway network will increase by 2 100 km.
In fall of 2007 the previous government of Poland has adopted the program according to which 121 bln zlotys would be allocated for construction of new highways, roads and by-ways near the cities up to the end of 2012. Present government with Donald Tusk in the head didn’t change the program. The balance of 2007 was promising. First time the state General Board for National Roads and Highways of Poland has allocated 10 bln zlotys for investment, and significant part of construction work has been finished on time.
In 2008 construction of 642 km of highways and 946 km of roads was to be started. Unfortunately contracts were only signed up for over 210 km of highways and 321 km of roads. Last year plan was executed only by one third.
